Stephen G. Yeonas, age 76, has been a leader in Washington area real estate for five decades.  A U.S. Army veteran, he began his career in construction immediately after the war, completing his first house in Arlington, VA in 1948.  He founded and served as President of the Yeonas Company, the largest builder of new homes in the Washington metropolitan area for many years.  In 1949, he married Thelma Stathopoulos.  They have two children - Stephanie and Stephen, Jr.   

Mr. Yeonas is a graduate of the American University and the Catholic University of America (Columbus School of Law).  Mr. Yeonas has been the recipient of numerous professional and civic awards including:  American University's Alumni Recognition Award, Catholic University's 1980 Alumni Award for outstanding achievements in the fields of business and finance, Man of the Year Award by the Home Builders Association of Metropolitan Washington, Marketing Man of the Year by the American Marketing Association (Washington Chapter), Virginia Realtor of the Year, the Citizenship of the Year Award (by the American Legion); and Member, Northern Virginia Board of Realtors Hall of Fame, Member, Home Builders Association of Virginia Hall of Fame and Member, National Association of Home Builders Hall of Fame.

 Mr. Yeonas served on the Board of Directors of Washington Gas Company from 1964 to 1998.  He serves as a Director Emeritus on the Board of Washington Mutual Investors Fund and as a Trustee of the American Funds Tax Exempt Series I.  He also served as director of First American Bank of Virginia and Atlantic Bank of New York.

 Mr. Yeonas is a member of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Washington, DC and is member of the Archdiocese's Leadership 100 Endowment Fund serving as National Chairman of the Millennium Membership Drive.   He introduced Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew during participation in the Chief Executives Organization, Istanbul, Turkey in 1995.   In 1996, he was named an Archon of the church and in 1997, served as chairman of the Washington Committee of the Visit of His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.   

In 1998, he received the Arete Award from the Greek Institute for his philanthropic work and the St. Theodore Greek Orthodox Church Christian Service Award.  Mr. Yeonas was a 2001 recipient of the American Hellenic Institute’s Hellenic Heritage Achievement Award and an Ellis Island Medal of Honor.  He was honored at the 12th Annual Hellenic Conference receiving the George P. Livanos Award.
