Dr. Barakat has excelled in his field of Pediatric Medicine both in Lebanon, his country of origin, and in the United States where he currently resides and practices medicine.  He is an outstanding Lebanese-American, who has devoted his life to the care of children.

Dr. Barakat is currently associated with Georgetown University and the University of Virginia in the United States.  However, he began his medical studies at the American University of Beirut, and continued at the Johns Hopkins University at Baltimore.

Dr. Barakat has published more than 70 manuscripts and chapters published in the fields of pediatrics and pediatric nephrology, is the author of two books in his field, and has won recognition of the “Barakat Syndrome” (nephrosis, nerve deafness and hypoparathyroidism, Johns Hopkins University Press, 1998).

Dr. Barakat remains active in Lebanese-American affairs, both in the United States and in Lebanon while pursuing an outstanding medical career.  Through his practice, teaching, and published manuscripts and books, he has been a leader in the field of Pediatric medicine, with special emphasis on children’s kidney/renal disease.  He is an active volunteer in charitable and other causes both in the United States and in Lebanon, and is known for his success in fund-raising events for charity.
