Nelson
Viriato Baptista immigrated to the United States in 1972.
In 1977 he opened an upholstery business which currently operates
under the name of Lisbon Upholstery Company. An
active member of the Portuguese-American community, he has served as Vice
President for the following organizations: The Philadelphia Portuguese
Club, The Ambler Portuguese Club and The Ibero-American Foundation of
Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Mayor’s Commission on Latino
Affairs, City of Philadelphia since 1985, and is Founder and five time
President of The Portuguese-American Business Association of Pennsylvania.
Nelson Viriato Baptista is also involved with The Philadelphia
Portuguese Heritage Club and the Portuguese Political Community of
Pennsylvania.
Baptista is the recipient of The Liberty Bell Award from the City of Philadelphia presented by Mayor Edward G. Rendel in June of 1994. That same year he was awarded a bronze medallion from the Portuguese Government for excellence in community service.
