Daniel Rappaport Business Leader German/Greek/Russian/Turkish 1997 Recipient Daniel Rappaport is Chairman of the Board/CEO of the New York Mercantile Exchange. Mr. Rappaport has been Chairman since 1993. He has been a member of the Board of Directors since 1986.. During Mr. Rappaports tenure as Chairman he successfully orchestrated a seventy-one million dollar merger deal with COMEX, the worlds largest precious metals exchange. Mr. Rappaport also planned, negotiated and supervised the development and construction of the Exchanges new 500,000 square foot corporate headquarters in lower Manhattan. The project was completed on time and under budget at a cost of $215 million dollars. In recognition of his service to the community, in 1997 Mr. Rappaport received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor. In that same year, in recognition of his contribution to the financial community, Mr. Rappaport received the Distinguished Service Award from the 100 Year Association of New York. Having been appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Energy, Federico Pena, Mr. Rappaport serves as a member of the National Petroleum Council. Mr. Rappaport also serves on the a Board of Trustees of New York Law School. Mr. Rappaport is a graduate of New York Law School and is licensed to practice law in the State of New York. In addition, he holds an MBA from Baruch College and he is a graduate of Syracuse University. Prior to joining the Exchange, Mr. Rappaport worked for a law firm engaged in the practice of general corporate law. Mr. Rappaport is married with three children.
