Fariborz Maseeh Founder, President Founder and Managing Principal Telephone: (949) 640-0801 Assistant: Cynthia Branch Fariborz Maseeh is founder and managing principal of Picoco LLC, an investment management firm which invests in various assets and manages several hedge funds. He also is the sole founder and president of The Massiah Foundation, a charitable organization which invests in transformational situations for broad public benefit. He is a worldwide recognized expert in the field of micro-electro mechanical systems (MEMS). He founded IntelliSense in 1991 with the vision of reducing the time and expense of creating next-generation MEMS devices. Under his leadership, IntelliSense successfully created the first custom design, development, and manufacturing MEMS operation. IntelliSense became one of the world’s fastest-growing MEMS companies, and was twice named to the New England Technology “Fast 50” and the Forbes’ “Fast 500.” List of Scientific and Academic Accomplishments Dr. Maseeh has over sixty scientific publications in business strategy, fabrication technologies, design of software for MEMS, and has authored a number of patents and trademarks. He has given numerous invited talks at various organizations both in science, entrepreneurship and philanthropy. Maseeh earned his bachelor of science degree in engineering with honors and a masters degree in applied mathematics from Portland State University, a masters of science degree in engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, and a doctorate in science degree in engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Selected Philanthropy Dr. Maseeh actively looks for unique philanthropic venues with large public benefits. He calls his charitable work “Venture Philanthropy” as he applies management principles to effectiveness in community service. Selected examples of his philanthropy are listed below: (2003) endowed a chair for Emerging Technologies at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Currently MIT’s Provost, Rafael Reif, is the holder of the Maseeh Chair in Emerging Technologies; (2004) endowed an inter-faith prayer room at Children’s Hospital of Orange County. The Maseeh Prayer Room is now being used daily by many parents and children, a place for spiritual healing at a time of need; (2004) awarded the largest gift in the history of Portland State University (PSU) partially to build the extensive Northwest Center for Engineering, and creation of several endowed professorships and graduate scholarships. PSU named the College of Engineering after Maseeh. The Northwest Center was dedicated on April 18, 2006; (2005) founded the Samuel Jordan Center for Persian Studies at University of California at Irvine (UCI), the first independent Center in the United States for Persian Studies and Culture. The Center is endowed with several chairs in literature, history and performing arts; (2007) dedicated the Maseeh Chapel at Hoag Hospital, Newport Beach, California; (2001 to present) created numerous teaching and research prizes at UCI, PSU and MIT; has given to various educational and health providing organizations. List of Community Services Dr. Maseeh is a Trustee of The Foundation and member of the Finance Committee at University of California at Irvine (UCI). He currently serves on the engineering advisory boards at MIT School of Engineering, Viterbi School of Engineering at USC, Samueli School of Engineering at UCI and the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science at Portland State University. He served as past Chairman of the Board of Directors of Children’s Hospital of Orange County Foundation for Children and past board member of the Boys and Girls Club of Boston.
