  James J. Schiro is Chief Executive Officer of Price Waterhouse, and since 1995 has been Chairman and Senior Partner of the U.S. firm of Price Waterhouse LLP. Prior to his election as Chairman of the U.S. firm, he served as Vice Chairman and Managing Partner for the New York metropolitan region and as Managing Partner of the New York office.

   Mr. Schiro has over two decades of experience serving large multinational engagements with operations in Europe, the United Kingdom, Canada, and the Far East. Mr. Schiro has served clients in a variety of industries, including financial services, communications, pharmaceuticals, consumer products, mining, and directing audits and providing special services related to acquisitions, divestitures and reorganizations.

   Mr. Schiro joined Price Waterhouse in 1967 and became a partner in 1979. For nine years, until 1988, he was Chairman of the firm's Mining Special Services Group. He then became National Director of Merger & Acquisitions Services, a position he held until his promotion to Vice Chairman.

   Mr. Schiro is a member of the Independence Standards Board that was created in 1997 by the Securities and Exchange Commission and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Mr. Schiro is also a Member of the Board of Directors of The United States-China Business Council. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, a member of the New York State Society of Public Accountants, and a member of the Council of the World Economic Forum. He is Treasurer and Executive Committee member of the United States Council for International Business, former Chairperson of the Business Improvement District (BID) Task Force of the New York City Partnership/Chamber of Commerce's Economic Development Committee, member of the Board of Trustees and Executive Committee of the New York City Partnership Chamber of Commerce, member of the British-North American Committee, member of the New York Steering Committee of the Accountants Coalition on Liability Reform, member of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Advanced Study, and a member of the Tri-State United Way Board of Governors.

   A graduate of St. John's University, Mr. Schiro serves as a member of the University's Board of Trustees and is also a member of the Board of Advisors' Executive Committee for the Colleges of Business Administration. In 1995, St. John's University awarded him an Honorary Doctor of Commercial Science degree. He is also a graduate of the Amos Tuck School Executive Program at Dartmouth College.

   Mr. Schiro is a recipient of the American Jewish Committee's National Human Relations Award (1997), Ellis Island Medal of Honor (1994), the St. John's University Alumni Pietas Medal (1992), and the Avenue of the Americas Association's Gold Key Award (1992).

   Resident of Princeton, New Jersey, Mr. Schiro and his wife, Tomasina, have two children, Justine and James Jr.
