The lives of thousands of people nationwide have been powerfully impacted by John Goodman.

The Goodman Group is a national company comprised of four operating entities: Sage Company, which focuses primarily on developing and managing commercial properties, residential and senior living communities and health care facilities; Sidney's, an award-winning casual-dining restaurant; John B. Goodman Limited Partnership, a development and design company; and a retail division including Sage Travel, a full service travel agency.

Sage Company was established as a property ownership and management company by Sidney A. Goodman, in 1965. In 1976, John assumed responsibility, diversifying and expanding the company nationally while maintaining the focus on improving people's lives.  The Goodman Group was formed in 1998 and is headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The endeavors of John Goodman are distinguished by an unwavering commitment to helping people become the best they can be whether they are young or old. This reflects his business philosophy: success is achieved by encouraging the potential and self-responsibility of every individual; by nurturing the balance of body, mind and spirit, and by realizing the importance of our responsibility with nature and our environment. It's a belief that people are helped most when they help themselves.

It's a philosophy evident in all of John's undertakings. Here's just a handful of examples, large and small:

·                    Developing communities, services and programs that bring young and old together. John was the catalyst behind these innovative projects:

o                   The Palms of Largo, Largo, Florida, a 96- acre campus that is home to more than 1,700 people from across the generations. It includes a full spectrum of services to enable seniors to age in place, from independent living to skilled nursing care.

§                     Cypress Palms, 131 assisted units

§                     Imperial Palms, 638 senior rental apartments

§                     Regal Palms, 184 assisted living units

§                     Royal Palms, 183 independent living units

§                     Sabal Palms, 240 skilled nursing beds

§                     Sago Palms, 72 assisted living units

§                     Silver Palms, 74 family rental community

§                     The Learning Center, experiential pre-school and day care

Wellness Center, holistic health care and outpatient rehabilitationBut, unlike typical senior living communities, The Palms of Largo also serves children, and creates opportunities for seniors to interact with them. That includes volunteering at the on-site learning center, serving children 6 weeks to 8 years of age, or participating in an array of activities. Seniors thrive on the energy and unconditional love of children, while children bloom under the attention of people just like their grandparents. There's one more very important lesson for the children -- they learn to overlook and understand disabilities.

The Palms of Largo also features Sabal Palms, the only long-term care community in Florida that has a unit designed especially for kids, with sky and cloud paintings on the ceilings, a lively playroom with a jukebox, and a 250-gallon aquarium.

·                    Provided the financial resources necessary to form an IRS approved 501(c) 3 nonprofit entity known as Intergenerational Living and Health Care, Inc., whose mission is to:

o       Assist seniors, as their incomes become limited, with programs and surroundings that help them live life to its fullest in innovative nursing, assisted living and residential communities.

o       Educate children.

o       Provide services that will help seniors, children and people with disabilities lead rewarding, happy, productive lives.

o       Create opportunities for seniors and children to learn and grow side by side.

ILHC, Inc., currently promotes its mission through ownership of:

o       The Commons on Marice, Eagan, Minnesota - 156 assisted living units

o       The Inn on Westport, Sioux Falls, South Dakota -132 assisted and independent living units

o       Intergenerational Learning Center, Eagan Minnesota - attended by more than 100 children of every race, creed and income, and enjoys weekly activities with the seniors at The Commons on Marice.

o       The Peaks, Flagstaff, Arizona - 91 assisted living units, 5 8 skilled nursing beds, and 8 independent bungalows.

o       Valley View Estates, 98 skilled care beds

·                    Creating programs within The Goodman Group to support the community:

o       The Sidney's restaurants have a program, Sidney's Kids' Charity of the Month, which has contributed many thousands of dollars to local charities. On the last Monday of the month, Sidney's donates $1 from every dinner entree ordered.

o       The Johnny B. Good Foundation, which John established, promotes individuals and organizations that have embraced the concepts of self-responsibility to make their lives and their community better. The foundation:

§         Commissioned artist Joe Geshick, a member of the Ojibway tribe, to develop 12 paintings representing their most significant rituals. The Foundation also funded an inspiring video about how he overcame poverty and imprisonment to become one of the nation's leading artists.

§         Developed a video illustrating how one of the worst housing projects in Dade County, Florida, overcame truancy, violence and drug abuse through residents building their self-esteem and creating a true community.

§         Developed a video about how the Omaha Public Housing authority empowered its residents to transform drug- and crime-ridden public housing projects from places of hopelessness to opportunity. In addition to funding the video, John enabled Omaha Public Housing to purchase one of his apartment complexes at the remaining cost of the loan, providing them more than a million dollars in equity - savings that they passed to the residents.

·                    Being environmentally responsible.

o       The Goodman Group is among the nation's first property management organizations to participate in an EPA program that is helping reduce energy consumption nationwide equivalent to removing the pollution of 2.2 million cars. As part of the Energy Star program, The Goodman Group is committed to monitoring energy usage and making improvements in its properties to save energy.

In addition to providing inspirational leadership to thousands employed by his multi-million dollar company, John is very active in his community. His affiliations include, but are not limited to:
