On January 1, 1995, Jerry D. Choate was elected Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of the Allstate Corporation and Allstate Insurance Company.

  Prior to his current position, Choate served as President and Chief Executive Officer. Previously, Choate was President of Allstate’s property and casualty operations. In that capacity, he was responsible for Allstate’s personal lines field operations, its pricing and marketing groups, information processing and functional departments—which include PP&C claim, finance, human resources, operations, sales and underwriting—as well as Allstate Automobile and Fire Insurance Company of Japan.

  Choate began his Allstate career in 1962 as an operations supervisor in the company’s Santa Ana, California regional office. He held various management positions in sales around the country until 1979, when he was named Assistant Vice President in the Midwest Life Region. In 1981, he was promoted to Regional Vice President in the Ohio Region and was promoted to Assistant Vice President Marketing in the company’s home office in 1982. He was named Vice President of Sales in 1983. In 1985, Choate served as Field Executive Vice President of the Western Territory. He was appointed Senior Vice President of Field Administration in 1987, Senior Vice President of Product Administration in 1988; and in 1989, Choate was named President of Allstate’s personal property and casualty operations.

  Choate serves on the Boards of Directors of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety; Catalyst, the nonprofit research and consulting group that works to advance women in business; and has been appointed Chair of the corporate steering committee for America’s Promise - The Alliance for Youth. He is a member of the Board of trustees for AICPCU - the Insurance Institute of America, and the Conference Board, Inc. Of New York. Choate also serves on The Chicago Committee - The Chicago Council on Foreign Relations and is a member of The Northwestern University Associates and The Commercial Club of Chicago.

  Choate graduated from San Jose State University in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Management. He and his wife, Gladys, have two grown daughters and reside in Barrington, Illinois.
