   Jack O’Brien was elected President, Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors of Allmerica Financial on July 21, 1989. He serves as Chairman of the Board, Chief Executive Officer and President of Citizens Corporation and SMA Financial Corp.; President and Chief Executive Officer of First Allmerica Financial Life Insurance Company; as well as President of Allmerica, Inc. He also serves as Chairman of the Board of serveral of the Allmerica Financial subsidiary companies: Allmerica Financial Life Insurance and Annuity Company, Allmerica Financial Alliance Insurance Company, Allmerica Financial Benefit Insurance Company, Allmerica Funds, Allmerica Institutional Services, Allmerica Investment Trust, Allmerica Sercurities Trust, The Hanover Insurance Company, The Hanover American Insurance Company, Massachusetts Bay Insurance Company, Citizens Insurance Company of America, Citizens Insurance of Illinois, Citizens Insurance Company of the Midwest and Citizens Insurance Company of Ohio. Jack serves as a director of Allmerica Asset Management, Inc., Allmerica Funding Corp., Allmerica Investments, Inc., Allmerica Investments, Inc., Allmerica Investment Management Co., Allmerica Plus Investments,Inc.; Allmerica Services Corporation and APC Funding Corp.

   Prior to his election at Allmerica Financial, Jack worked for 21 years at Fidelity Investments, the Boston-based mutual fund firm. He began as a security analyst, held a variety of leadership positions in the subsidiaries of the company and eventually became the Group Managing Director of FMR Corp., the number two position at Fidelity.

   In addition, Jack serves as a member of the Board of Directors of ABIOMED, Inc. Cabot Corporation, and The TJX Companies, Inc., as well as Director and Chairman of the Board of LIAM. He is a Trustee of the Worcester Art Museum.

   A 1965 graduate of Havard College, Jack captained the Football team and was presented with the Francis Hardon Burr Award as the outstanding senior scholar athlete. He received his M.B.A. from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration in 1968.
