Joseph J. DePaolo serves as President, Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors of Signature bank, a New York State chartered bank; and a number of the Board of Directors for Signature Securities Group, a U.S. retail broker-dealer and wholly owned non-bank subsidiary if Signature Bank.

Signature Bank caters to privately owned businesses, their owners, management and staff as well as high net worth individuals. This target market is currently underserved by the many large financial institutions that typically service the mass market and by traditional private banks designed to serve the very wealthy. Having successfully indentified this market niche and established itself in the NY market; Signature Bank now operates 23 private client offices located throughout the New York metropolitan area. After nearly nine years in business, Signature Bank assets have grown to $9. 7 billion while deposits reached $ 7. 9 billion, as of March 31, 2010. Additionally, Signature Bank now ranks in the top 2.5 percent of all U.S. commercial banks based on total assets (according to FDIC).

In his role, as President and Chief Executive Office, DePaolo oversees the bank’s growth and expansion, and works directly works its 71 private client banking teams.

DePaolo was a Managing Director of Republic National Bank of New York, a $55 billion wholly owned Bank subsidiary of Republic New York Corporation, a $60 billion Bank Holding Company for 12 years. His responsibilities included managing the business and supervision of the Consumer financial Services Division, which included approximately 90 retail branches and approximately 14 private banking units within the Division. DePaolo was the Chairman of Republic Financial Services, a retail broker dealer subsidiary, and Chairman of the Republic Insurance Agency. The Consumer financial Service division had more than $11 billion in deposit, $5.5 billion in assets under management and over one million customers, it was the third largest retail-banking network ranked by assets in the New York Metropolitan area.

DePaolo joined Republic in 1988 and held a number of positions with increasing responsibilities including First Vice President and Deputy Auditor; First Vice President and Senior Vice President of Consumer Banking. While Deputy Auditor, DePaolo worked on all major projects of the Bank including the acquisition of The Manhattan Saving Bank and the creation of the European Company, Safra Republic Holdings S.A. Luxembourg (49.1 % owned by Republic New York Corporation).

 

Before joining Republic, DePaolo spent seven years at KPMC (Big Four Worldwide Accounting Firm) where he held positions of Assistant Accountant, Staff Accountant, Senior Accountant, Supervising Senior Accountant, Audit Manager and Senior Audit Manager. During his tenure at Peat Marwick he became a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). His clients included Manufactures Hanover Corporation, Citicorp and Republic New York Corporation. DePaolo is a member of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants.

In October 2009, DePaolo was named Corporate Leader 2009 by the New Rochelle Police Foundation of New Rochelle, N.Y. a non-profit entity, focused on raising funds that assist with and undertake programs that strengthen the service offered by the and professionalism of the New Rochelle Police Department . A New Rochelle resident, DePaolo was honored and selected to receive the Corporate Leader Award 2009 by the Police foundation, based on his outstanding service and dedication to the community. Signature Bank has become and important part of the New Rochelle community since starting operations there in December 2001 with the opening of its private client banking office.

DePaolo was an Honoree at the 2006 New Rochelle Fund for Educational Excellence. He was awarded the Phyllis Kreitman Memorial Award by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in September 2005; an Honoree at the Housing & Services luncheon in January 2004 and The Harold Kalikow Memorial Camp Reception, Benefiting Scouts w/ disabilities in June 2003. Formerly, he was a member of the Westchester County Association, the Board of Directors of the American Heart Association of Westchester, and the board of Trustees of Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York. In 1998 and 1999, he was Chairman of the American Heart Association’s Westchester County Heart Walks. Nationwide fund raising records were set in each of those years. DePaolo has received numerous awards on the local, state and national level from the
American Heart Association. He was the Honoree at the 2000 Annual Gala.

In May 2002, DePaolo was awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor presented by the National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations Foundation, Inc. The award recognizes distinguished Americans who have made significant contribution to the country’s heritage.

DePaolo, 51 is a graduate of Iona College in Westchester, New York, which he attended on a full academic scholarship. He graduated Summa Cum Laude, earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration in accounting. He lives with his wife and two children in New Rochelle, New York.
