Leonard Lauder is Chairman of The Estee Lauder Companies Inc.  Founded in 1946 by Estee and Joseph Lauder, The Estee Lauder Companies Inc. is one of the world’s leading manufacturers and marketers of quality skin care, makeup and fragrance products. It’s brands are sold in more than 100 markets under well recognized brand names: Estee Lauder, Aramis, Clinique, Prescriptives, Origins, M.A.C., Bobbi Brown essentials, Tommy Hilfiger, Jane, Donna Karan Cosmetics, Aveda, Stila, Jo Malone and Kate Spade.

Mr. Lauder was graduated from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, studied at the Columbia University Graduate School of Business and was a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy.

Through a contribution in 1983 by Mr. Lauder and Ronald S. Lauder, the Joseph H. Lauder Institute of Management and International Studies were established at the University of Pennsylvania. Leonard Lauder is a member of the board of Governors of the Institute as well as a member of the Board of Trustees of the University.

Associated with the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City since 1977, first as a Trustee, and then, from 1990 to 1994, as President of the Board, Leonard Lauder was honored in June 1996 with the Whitney’s “ American Art Award “, acknowledging his “leadership in corporate support and his extraordinary advocacy on behalf of artistic, educational, and cultural institutions throughout New York City and the United States”. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board at the Whitney.

In 1998, Mr. Lauder was honored by the National Retail Federation with the prestigious American Spirit Award, created to honor individuals and companies who demonstrate exemplary community service.

Mr. Lauder is a trustee of The Aspen Institute, as well as a member of the President’s Council of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital. Mr. Lauder served on the Advisory Committee for Trade Negotiations to President Reagan. In 1986, he was presented the National Order of Merit by the French Government.

He is married to Evelyn Hausner Lauder, who plays an active role in the company as Senior Corporate Vice President. In 1993 they were honored as “Philanthropists of the Year” by the Greater New York Chapter of the National Society of Fund Raising Executives for their outstanding accomplishments and focused leadership as corporate executives, philanthropists and influential members of the community.

Leonard and Evelyn Lauder have two sons, William and Gary.
