Guy Mangano was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York.  A graduate of St. John's University, he also received his law degree from St. John's, and in 1983, he was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Law Degree from that University.

At present, he is the Presiding Justice, Appellate Division, Second Department- A position he has held since March, 1990.
He also held the following positions:
Appellate Division Second Department, Justice Supreme Court, for 28 years; Associate Justice Appellate Term, 2nd  & 11th Judicial Districts; Administrative Judge Criminal Term, Supreme Court, Kings County; Judge of Family Court; Member of State Senate; Member of State Assembly 1958. 

His many and varied Committee Assignments included:
Chairman of Joint Legislative Committee studying federal and state relations; Member of Joint Legislative Committee studying Obscene Literature; Serving on Senate Democratic Policy Committee; Member of coordinating committee of NYS Client's Security Fund.
 

Judge Mangano  is the former President of the Council of Chief Judges, American Bar Association.  He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Council of Chief Judges, Brooklyn Bar Association, Coalition of Italo-American Associations, Inc., Columbian Lawyers, Catholic Lawyers, Lawyers' Club of Brooklyn; Former Member Committee on Opinions, NYS Justices' Association, Former Chairman Kings County Grand Jury Board, Former Member B/D, JHMCB Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, member of Lions Club Kings County, Red Hook Housing and Gowanus Housing Associations, formerly active in Boy Scouts of America and Businessmen's Lunch-O-Ree, and other youth organizations sponsored by church, veteran organizations and local community groups.  Past President of the St. John's School of Law Alumni Association, he has been a Board member for 25 years.  He is also a member of the Executive Board of St. John's University Council.   

His legal teachings include serving as an Adjunct Professor at St. John's School of law for a number of years, and lecturing at Judges' seminars.
