Mario J. Gabelli Business Leader Italian 1996 Recipient Mario J. Gabelli is Chairman of Gabelli Funds, Inc., the advisor to the Gabelli family of mutual funds, and the money management firm Gabelli Asset Management Company (GAMCO). Mr. Gabelli is a summa cum laude graduate of Fordham University and received a Masters of Business Administration from Columbia University Graduate School of Business. He also holds an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Roger Williams University. Mr. Gabelli is a leading disciple of the Graham & Dodd school of securities analysis. He is recognized as a pioneer in applying Graham & Dodds principles to the analysis of domestic, cash-generating, franchise companies in a wide range of industries. His proprietary Private Market Value methodology is now an analytical standard in the value investing community. Mr. Gabelli began his investment career in 1967 as an analyst with the investment banking firm of Loeb, Rhoades & Company. In 1975, he joined the Wall Street research boutique William D. Witter. In 1977, shortly after Drexel Burnham merged with Witter, he formed broker/dealer Gabelli & Company, Inc., the first component in what has grown into a diversified financial services corporation serving individual and institutional investors. Mr. Gabelli is a Chartered Financial Analyst, a member and former officer of the New York Society of Security Analysts, the New York Society of Auto Analysts and the Entertainment Analysts Group of New York. He is a Governor of the American Stock Exchange and was a commissioner of the New York State Christopher Columbus Quincentenary Commission. He is a trustee of the Winston Churchill Foundation of the United States, established to honor Sir Winstons memory. The Foundation encourages American scientific and technological talent by providing scholarships and fellowships to outstanding graduate students and professors to study and do research at Churchill College, Cambridge, England. Mr. Gabelli is also a trustee of the E. L. Weigand Foundation in Reno, Nevada. This foundation supports programs and projects in the fields of education, health and community affairs, and the arts and cultural affairs. As a trustee of the Dr. I Fund Foundation based in Hawthorne, New York, Mr. Gabelli shares in the Foundations concern for humanity by assisting in their objective of funding grants for medical research. Mr. Gabelli also serves as a member of the Board of Overseers of Columbia University Graduate School of Business, the Board of Trustees of Fordham preparatory School and Roger Williams University. In addition to his own companies, Mr. Gabelli is Chairman of Lynch Corporation, an American Stock Exchange listed company. Mr. Gabelli has been the subject of feature articles in several financial journals, including Institutional Investor, Business Week, Fortune, Forbes, Changing Times and Money. He is also a member of Barrons prestigious annual Year-End Roundtable. Mr. Gabelli is a frequent guest commentator on Financial News Network and Cable News Network and has appeared five times on PBSs "Wall $treet Week with Louis Rukeyser."
