Michael Berry, Esq. Community Leader Lebanese/American 1998 Recipient Michael Berry is a graduate of Detroit College of Law with an LLB Degree and Juris Doctor Degree. He is legally affiliated with the American Bar Association &Michigan Bar Association and was admitted to practice in the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Berry is a former member of the Board of Directors of St. Judes Hospital and Childrens Hospital of Michigan. As well as an Executive Board Member of the American Task Force for Lebanon, based in Washington, D.C. He is a member of the Foundation Board of Directors of Henry Ford Community College & Detroit College of Business and a Member of the Foundation Board of Trustees Detroit Business College. Mr. Berry is sponsored by the United States Department of State, Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs as a non-paid grantee for a speaking tour of the Near East in 1966. He was appointed by the Michigan Supreme Court in 1987 to serve on the task force for ethnic and racial discrimination in the Courts. Michael Berry served as township and/or city attorney for many communities, as well as former Chairman 16th Congressional Democratic District. He was the 1960 Presidential Elector and former delegate National Convention Democratic Party for John F. Kennedy, and a former member and Chairman of the Board of Wayne County Road Commissioners. Mr. Berry was the recipient of the Danny Thomas Award in recognition of outstanding efforts in furthering goals of St. Judes Research Hospital, and was honored by Wayne County and other groups by naming the International Terminal at Metro Detroit Airport the Michael Berry International Terminal. He is a member of the Board of Directors American Task Force for Lebanon. He was awarded National Order of Cedar of Lebanon by the Lebanese Government on October 21, 1993. Mr. Berry is the recipient of the National Human Relations Award from the National Conference along with Co-Honoree John F. Smith, Jr., Chairman, CEO and President of General Motors. December 1996. He also was the recipient of the 1998 Ellis Island Medal of Honor on May 9,1998, and the Distinguished Alumni Award Detroit College of Law- Michigan State University, May 31, 1998. Michael Berry resides in Dearborn, Michigan, and has four daughters; Laura, Carol, Gail and Cindi ; and two sons, Timothy and Brendan.
