Moe Biller was elected President of the 365,000-member American Postal Workers Union in November 1980.  Prior to his election he served as the union’s Northeast Regional Coordinator and President of the world’s largest postal union local, New York Metro, (and its forerunner, the Manhattan-Bronx Postal Union) since 1959.

Since coming to work at the Post Office in 1937, Moe Biller has held numerous local union positions, including Chairman of the membership committee, Sergeant-at-Arms, and Executive Vice President.  He also played a key role on the committee that in 1971 brought about the merger of the five postal unions, which now comprise the APWU.

Biller is a member of the Executive Council of the AFL-CIO.  He also serves as Executive Board member of the New York City Central Labor Council, and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Postal, Telegraph and Telephone International.  He is an Executive Vice President of the AFL-CIO Public Employee Department and serves on the Board of Directors of the Union Labor Life Insurance Company.

Biller serves on the boards of several charitable and civic organizations.  He is a Vice President of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, a member of the Board of Directors of United Way International, Labor Chairman of the National Advisory Council to the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation, and Federal Executive Committee member of the Combined Federal Campaign.  

He is also on the Advisory Board of Cornell University’s Trade Union Women Studies Program and the Advisory Council of Empire State College.  He is a member of the Federal Thrift Advisory Council, a member of the Federal Advisory Council on Occupational Safety and Health, and on the National Board of the A. Philip Randolph Institute.  Additionally, Biller is a member of the Coalition of Labor Union Women and the NAACP.

Biller received the 1977 Distinguished Service Award and the 1979 Community Service Award from the New York Central Labor Council.  He was also awarded the 1982 Spirit of Life Award from the City of Hope National Medical Center.

Moe Biller was born on November 5, 1915 in New York City. After graduating with honors from Seward Park High School, he attended Brooklyn College and City College of New York for several years.  He is an U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, Adjutant General Corps., 1943-45.  Biller has two sons from his first marriage, Michael and Steven, and two grandchildren.
