Margaret W. Wong Community Leader Chinese 1998 Recipient Margaret Wong has been named among the "Best Lawyers in America" since 1991. The principal of Margaret W. Wong and Associates, her law firm is known and respected both nationally and internationally in the field of Immigration and Naturalization Law. Rated AV from Martindale-Hubbell, Ms. Wong is admitted to practice law in all state courts in Ohio, New York, and the District of Columbia, as well as the Federal District Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of the United States. Ms. Wong has distinguished herself as a civic leader in the Greater Cleveland community and the State of Ohio. She is the former President of the Federal Bar Association, Cleveland Chapter. It was under her guidance and direction that the Chapter won the coveted Chapter Activity Award. While president, Ms. Wong instituted a series of monthly on-site luncheons held at various government sites throughout the Cleveland area, including the Federal Reserve Bank, the FBI, and the Bankruptcy Court. Additionally, the organization held several Continuing Legal Education events. She was one of the charter members of the Ohio Supreme Court CLE Commission. As a Special Counsel for Ohio, appointed by the Ohio Attorney General, she represents Ohio Public Universities and Colleges regarding various immigration matters. Ms. Wong has received many awards including: Federal Bar Association Cleveland Chapter'snPresident's Award; Outstanding Alumni, State University of New York at Buffalo (1986); and the YWCA Career Woman of the Year Award (1984). In 1996, she was named one of Cleveland Magazine's "Most Interesting People," and in 1997, she was named to the Inside Business "Most Influential Women" and the Crain's Cleveland Business "Women of Influence" lists. She has also been a member of Leadership America and Leadership Cleveland. Margaret Wong currently serves on the following Boards: Greater Cleveland Growth Association; Editorial Board of Corporate Counsel's Guide to Business-Related Immigration; Board of Notre Dame College; Ohio Commission on Higher Education; National Conference; Town Hall; Greater Cleveland Round Table; University Hospitals of Cleveland; United Way Services; and the Asian Bar Association, Cleveland Chapter. In 1995, she was presented with the Margaret Ireland Award by the Women's City Club in recognition of her civic achievements and community service. The Greater Cleveland Chinese community named her their 1998 "Woman of the Year." Ms. Wong is a frequent writer and lecturer on current issues in the practice of Immigration Law. She founded and chaired the Annual Immigration and Naturalization Seminar for the Federal Bar Association (Cleveland Chapter) which was held for the ninth time on October 4, 1996. In addition, she is a founder and consultant to two of cleveland's finest restaurants, Pearl of the Orient-East and Pearl of the Orient-West.
