Nacy Panzica Chairman Panzica Construction Company Italian 2003 Recipient
Nacy Panzicas father, Anthony,
came through Ellis Island from Palermo, Sicily, Italy in 1913.
His family settled in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania, where Nacy was
born in 1927. After serving
his country in the Navy, in 1947 he moved to Cleveland, Ohio, and attended
Cleveland State University. From a somewhat modest starthis
first construction job was a $425 garage expansion in 1955--Nacy Panzica
has gone on to create what is, arguably, one of Northeast Ohios premier
construction management/general contracting firms. While Panzica Construction has made an indelible mark on the
face of Cleveland, Nacy Panzicas imprint on the soul of the city and
the heart of his family are of equal, if not greater, import. Panzica Construction can be found
at every imaginable building site. The
firm has been recognized repeatedly for its exemplary work in the
construction of schools, hospitals, shopping centers, office buildings,
recreation centers, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, government
buildings, industrial parks, sports complexes and churches.
Among the firms most notable achievements is the construction of
the Plain Dealer new headquarters building and the critically acclaimed
restoration of Severance Hall the home of the world reknown Cleveland
Orchestra. Complementing
Panzica Constructions success is the professional recognition Nacy has
received, namely, Man of the Year in 2000 by the Engineering Society and
Community Leader of the Year by the Northeastern Ohio Chapter of The
Arthritis Foundation in 2002. Panzica Construction is a family
affair. Not only because
Nacys sons, Tim and Tony, are integral to the success of the business,
but because Nacy sees and treats all of his employees as family. It is this spirit, this appreciation of and respect for
others, which is at the core of Nacys being.
It is this same spirit that guides Nacy in his interactions with
others. Nacys impact on the city of
Cleveland goes far beyond Panzica Construction. Among the organizations he has supported over the years are
Catholic Charities, Help for the Retarded, Inc., Alhambra for Retarded
Children, Cuyahoga Community College, St. Augustine Manor, Legatus, and,
of course, The Arthritis Foundation. Family is paramount to Nacy.
He has four children: Anthony,
Timothy, Mary Beth Link and Laura King.
His grandchildren, sixteen in number, range in age from seven to
twenty-five. His family describes him as loving, kind, gentle and big
hearted. Quite appropriately,
an annual Panzica family party is held on March 19th, St.
Josephs Day, to honor the Patron Saint of the Working Family. Everyone participates. Nacy knew his wife, Rosemary, from
the time she was six. She was
his best friend. Rosemary
passed away in May 2001 after having struggled with rheumatoid arthritis
for over fifteen years. Family man.
Businessman. Community stalwart. Nacy
Panzica believes fervently that there are no limits if one tries hard
enough. His lifes work is
testament to that.
