Young J. Paik Chairman & CEO 2009 Ellis Island Medals of Honor Recipient Mr. Paid founded Paco Steel & Engineering Corporation in 1974. Paco Steel began manufacturing and processing steel from the Northeastern Arkansas plant in 1996. Paco Steel distributes Welded Beam and steel products nationwide from distribution centers located in Los Angeles, Portland, Houston, Dallas, Tampa, Savannah and Chicago. Previous to founding Paco Steel, Mr. Paik was Vice President at Marcrest Steel from 1972 to 1974, where he pioneered development of the use of electric resistance welding in the formation of welded beam and researched, developed and improved products to meet city, state and federal code standards and received agency approvals. As Chief Engineer of the Steel Building Division at Soule Steel from 1962 to 1972, he engineered and streamlined construction of prefabricated steel buildings for commercial, warehouse and military facilities in Los Angeles and Long Beach port and harbor. He designed and developed the use of the “Paik Knee Joint”, a column and rafter connection that facilitated the rapid construction of military facilities in Vietnam without the use of welding, heavy equipment or experience. Mr. Paik began his engineering career in 1959 at Van Wert County, Ohio, working on bridge and highway structure projects.
