  Panayiotis (Peter) Papanicolaou was born in Nicosia, Cyprus on December 12, 1961. He attended and was graduated from the Kykko Gymnasium for Boys in 1979. Following two years of service with the Cyprus National Guard, he immigrated to the United States, where he attended the New Jersey Institute of Technology in a special program for honored students.

  Mr. Papanicolaou received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1986 and a Masters of Science in Construction Engineering and Construction Management in 1988. While attending the New Jersey Institute of Technology he worked as a teaching assistant (between the years 1986 and 1987), in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering

  In 1987, as a researcher for the department, he developed a new technology for the clean-up of toxic contaminated soils. This method patented in the United States and for which he received numerous awards, is presently used for the clean-up of contaminated sites at several US Army and Air Force sites in addition to a number of industrial areas and Nuclear power plants. He has authored a number of publications on the development of this technology. In 1992 his alma mater honored him for his contribution to the development of new technologies.

  Today, Mr. Papanicolaou is the vice-president and principal of JF Contracting, a Brooklyn based construction and engineering firm. He is among the first and few individuals to hold a license for the removal and supervision of work in the abatement of lead paint.

  His professional affiliations include membership in the American Society of Civil Engineers, The National Society of Professional Engineers and the Civil Engineering Honor Society.

  Mr. Papanicolaou serves as the Supreme President of The Cyprus Federation of America. He serves on the board of directors of The Cyprus Children Fund, Saint Basil's Academy and is a member of the Advisory Board of the Center for Byzantine Studies at Queens College. In 1996, he received a citation of merit, as a business leader, from the Bronx Borough President for his contribution to the community. In 1997 he received the prestigious Ellis Island Medal of Honor.

  He resides in Brooklyn, New York with his wife Nasia and their two daughters Elizabeth 9 and Elena 7.
