Robert B. Catell Italian 1998 Recipient Robert
B. Catell is Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of KeySpan
Energy Corporation and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Brooklyn
Union. KeySpan Energy
Corporation is a holding company with 1.1 million customers in Brooklyn,
Queens, and Staten Island. KeySpans
subsidiaries own energy-related businesses in gas exploration and
production, gas co-generation, and pipelines. After
joining Brooklyn Union in 1958, Mr. Catells rise through the managerial
ranks culminated in his 1991 election as Brooklyn Unions President and
Chief Executive Officer. In
1996, Brooklyn Unions Board of Directors elected Mr. Catell Chairman
and Chief Executive Officer with a goal of forming KeySpan Energy
Corporation, a holding company established in 1997.
As Chairman, President and CEO of KeySpan, Mr. Catell, a member of
Financial World Magazines Corporate Dream Team, oversees one of the
largest energy-related businesses in the world today. Mr.
Catell is a director and a past Chairman of the American Gas Association.
He is a Director and Vice Chairman of the Gas Research Institute.
Mr. Catell is also a Director of the New York State Energy Research
and Development Authority, and the Business Council of New York State,
Inc. Additionally, he serves
as a Director and Vice Chairman of the New York City Partnership, and is a
member of the Executive Committee of the Energy Association of New York
State, Inc. Additionally, he
serves as a Director and Vice Chairman of the New York City Partnership,
and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Energy Association of
New York State. Mr. Catell is
a Director of the New York City Investment Fund, and Chairman of the
Business Council for a Sustainable Energy Future.
He serves on Chases Metropolitan Advisory Board, the Council for
Environmental Quality, the Committee for Economic Development, and the
Mayors Private Sector Committee on Information Technology.
Mr. Catell also servcs on the Board of Directors of the Empire
State Business Alliance. A
founding member of the New York City Public Private Partnership, he
continues to serve on the Partnerships Board of Directors.
He is a member of the National Petroleum Council and the Society of
Gas Lighting. He is a member
and past Chairman of the Advisory Board of City College of New Yorks
School of Engineering. His
further contributions to the community include serving as a Trustee of the
Brooklyn Botanic Garden, the Brooklyn Public Library, and the Brooklyn Law
School. He is a member of the
Advisory Board of HeartShare for Human Services.
He also serves as Director of the Board of the Utility Business
Education Coalition.
He is a former Chairman and currently serves on the Executive
Committee of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce. In addition to his numerous New York City business and cultural activities, Mr. Catell is a Trustee of Independence Savings Bank. He is Chairman and a Director of both Boundary Gas Inc., and Alberta Northeast Inc., two consortia of distribution companies formed to purchase Canadian gas. He is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Taylor Gas Liquids
