  John Sharkey is Vice President of Corporate National Accounts for MCI Communications in New York City. His organization focuses on the large, multi-national banking, brokerage and commercial organizations providing sophisticated telecommunication services worldwide.

  He started his business career at Litton Industries and then held management positions at General Electric Company, Rolm Corporation and Southern New England Telephone before joining MCI in 1982.

  A native New Yorker, he was educated by the Irish Christian Brothers at Power Memorial Academy and Iona College while growing up on Manhattan’s West Side.

  Throughout his career, John has never failed to include community service in his list of priorities. His charitable and fundraising activities have centered around many New York City organizations, including the New York Foundling Hospital and HeartShare Services. With his employees, he engages in an annual food drive for City Harvest, in which they donate time and hundreds of pounds of canned goods for the City’s homeless. He has been a strong advocate for pushing corporate America to respond to the growing problems of the needy.

  John is a Knight of St. Patrick and is a member of the Board of directors of the American Ireland Fund, the Ireland-United States Council for Commerce and Industry, Belfast-based FLAX Trust, and a founding member of the Ireland Chamber of Commerce in the U.S.A. (ICCUSA).
