Stanley M. Chesley Ukranian 2002 Recipient Stanley
M. Chesley was born on March 26, 1936 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Russian
immigrants Frank and Rachel Chesley, who immigrated in 1904 and 1905,
respectively. He attended the
University of Cincinnati, and obtained his B.A. in 1958, and his LLB. in
1960 from the University of Cincinnati Law School.
He was admitted to the Bar in 1960 and joined the firm of Waite,
Schneider, Bayless & Chesley Co., L.P.A.
The firm was originally founded in 1860.
In 1878, the firm became Cleveland & Waite, with the inclusion
of Morrison R. Waite, the grandson of one of the Chief Justices of the
United States Supreme Court. The
firm, of which Stanley M. Chesley is President, presently has a staff of
52, including 18 attorneys. Professional

States Court of Appeals for the Second, Fourth and Sixth Circuits.

8 years on the Board of Commissioners of Grievances and Discipline for the
Supreme Court of Ohio; serving as its Vice Chair from 1992 through 1993,
and serving as its Chairman from 1994 through 1995, appointed by the
Supreme Court to Discipline attorneys and judges in Ohio.
Lecturer and Author for the Practicing Law Institute; Lecturer and
Author for the American Bar Association.
Has also written and lectured extensively for many legal
organizations. National
Organizations
Member
of the United States Holocaust Museum Council, appointed by the President
of the United States in 1995. Served
since 1998 as pro bono Counsel for the Conference on Jewish Material
Claims Against Germany, the World Jewish Congress and the World Jewish
Restitution Organization in the Swiss Banks Litigation, the negotiations
establishing the German Foundation, Remembrance, Responsibility and the
Future; the negotiations establishing the Austrian (Labor) Foundations,
Reconciliation, Peace and Cooperation; and the negotiations
establishing the Austrian General Settlement (Property) Fund. Was
specially recognized and awarded a shofar by the Claims Conference for my
work at its Annual Meeting on July 18, 2000. Board
of Directors and Executive Committee, Jewish
National Fund. Recipient
of the Shalom Peace Award from the Jewish National Fund in 1999, being one
of only ten recipients internationally.
