Theodore Strange, MD is a graduate of Xaverian High School, Class of 1977.  After earning his undergraduate degree, Magna Cum Laude from Manhattan College, Dr. Strange received his medical degree in 1985 from SUNY Downstate.  He did his residency training including a chief residency year in Internal Medicine at Staten Island University Hospital.  Upon completion of his training, he has assumed a number of positions at the hospital including Associate Director of Medicine and Vice President of Medical Operations at the South Site.  Dr. Strange also provides in-hospital care to older patients as Medical Director of the hospital’s South Division Geriatric Psychiatry and serves in a teaching capacity in charge of the medical residency.  He holds the title of Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine on the faculty of SUNY Downstate.  He is also Board Certified in multiple specialties including Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine and Quality Assurance and Utilization Review with additional special recognition in Managed Care and Risk Management. Dr. Strange is co-founder and Executive Vice-President of University Physicians Group, a large multi-specialty group practice.  He helped to innovate this private practice group model in 1991, which is still providing excellent healthcare to Staten Island and South Brooklyn.

Dr. Strange maintains a full schedule of professional, community and civic activities.  He has served on many hospital committees. He has been elected to multiple positions including President of the Richmond County Medical Society and President of the Medical and Dental Staff at Staten Island University Hospital.  He has served at the request of two Governors, Cuomo and Pataki, and Mayor Guiliani to appointed positions on the Governor Health Care Advisory Council and the Board of Directors of the NYS Public Health and Hospital Council Corporation of NYC.  He recently was elected as an Associate Trustee to the Staten Island University Hospital Board of Trustees.  He is also actively involved in his parish at Our Lady Star of the Sea.  Dr. Strange serves on the Board of Trustees for Xaverian High School and Heartshare Human Services Organization.  Dr. Strange is a fellow at the American College of Physicians and a Diplomat at the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review.

Dr. Strange has been part of a task force in reaching out to the community concerning prescription drug abuse and its effect on our current young adults.  He has also actively participated with St. Joseph by the Sea High School with their athletic department in educating young athletics on steroid abuse and other illicit drug use and their dangers.

Dr. Strange has completed his 14th NYC Marathon and two Boston Marathons.  On his NYC Marathons, he along with Asics Sports, have helped raise money for Xaverian High School Scholarships.

Of his many honors and awards, Dr. Strange is proud to have been a 2008 recipient of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor Award and the 2007 Louis R. Miller Leadership Award.

Dr. Strange is most proud of his family, being married for 25 years to the former Valerie Pantaleone.  They reside in Tottenville, Staten Island and are the proud parents of four children.  John, 21, is a student of St. Josephs University.  Marc, 19, is also a student at St. Josephs University.  Victoria, 17, is a student at St. Joseph by the Sea  and Elizabeth, 13.  He and his family enjoy traveling and participating in community activities.
