  Dr. Takey Crist, Obstetrician and Gynecologist born Manhattan, New York, August 1, 1937. He is Board Eligible to practice in North Carolina and New York. He is certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a Member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology; Member of the American College of Surgeons; Member of the International College of Surgeons and a member of the Medical Society of the state of North Carolina, Robert A. Ross Obsetrical and Gynecological Society. He is a fellow of the American Fertility-Sterility Society, Phi Kai Medical Fraternity, Association of Military Surgeons, Member of the North Carolina Obstetrics and Gynecological Society, Member of the Association of Professors in Gynecology and Obstetrics, Member of the American Association of Gynecological Laparoscopists.

   Dr. Crist graduated from the University of North Carolina, interned at the Medical College of South Carolina and did his Residency at the University of North Carolina. He was Chief Resident from 1969 to 1970 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has worked with Dr. Jerry Hulka, Harold Leaf and taken post-graduate courses with Irving Cushner and Ron Pyon and put the first Hulka clip in Moscow, Russia in 1991. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina in Obstetrics and Gynecology and also holds the position of Clinical Assistant Professor at East Carolina School of Medicine in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

  His awards and honors include scholarships in football at the University of North Carolina. He was President of the Junior Fellows of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology at District 4. He won the George Miriam Cooper Medical Society Award in North Carolina and was awarded the Onslow County Jaycees award for his work with venereal disease in teenagers. In 1997, he was awarded the Outstanding Community Man of the Year in Jacksonville, North Carolina. He has received awards from NARAL , recognition for women’s healthcare; North Carolina NARAL award for excellence in women’s health care and the NAF recognition and appreciation award. He has also been given the North Carolina Coalition for Choice Championship Award.

  He has served on numerous committees including Faculty Counsel University of North Carolina; Inter-Agency Advisory Committee for State-Wide Family Planning. Has been a member of the Onslow Sickle Cell Association, Consultant for National Institute of Health regarding use of Estrogen as a morning after treatment. He has been Interim Deputy Director of National Center of Family Planning. He has been a consultant to Transitions Magazine, a magazine for teenagers. In 1993, he was a consultant to Hillary Clinton’s Health Task Force and also was nominated as Medical Director for the Princess Elizabeth Foundation in New York. To his credit, Dr. Crist has over 40 publications. He has received Fellowships and Grants from A.H. Robbins and Company; University Research Counsel, Battered Women grant for North Carolina Counsel of Woman, Wyeth-Earst research award on Nordet, participated in several books including "Elephants and Butterflys", "Proceedings of the Population Workshop in who shall live and how"; "Problem pregnancy and resource manual", "The Sex Scene" , "Current therapy-Postpartum care", "Not My Daughter" facing up to adolescent pregnany. "We are the Women" and translated "Elephants and Butterflys" into Greek for the Cyprus family planning association.

  Audio visuals have included "Menarche to Marriage", "Human Sexuality in Medical Practice", "The New Women in Obstetrics and Gynecology", "Fibroid Uterus" a teaching tape; "Politics of Abortion".

  He has presented papers on Obstetrics and Gynecology in over 149 cities, countries and states. Dr. Crist has also served on numerous committees including Emergency Room Committee, Executive Committee of the Medical Staff, Infectious Control Committee, Surgery Committee, OB-GYN Committee, Blood transfusion and tissue committee, Nuclear medicine committee.

  He has been an avid supporter of women’s rights and has also devoted the past 25 years to finding a peaceful settlement on the Island of Cyprus. Other Organizations include member of American Hellenic Education and Progressive Action (AHEPA), Chairman of the Cyprus and Hellenic Affairs Committee for the past three years, member of PSECA, Director of North Carolina Organization; Member of the Cyprus Children’s Fund; Regional Chairman of the PanCyprian Association of American. He has written several papers on restoration of Human Rights in Cyprus.

   Other publications include "Cyprus, the Forgotten Land"; "Cyprus, there is hope"; "Physicians response to Jartas", "The Time is Now." " The Time for Freedom in Cyprus appears to be slipping away".   In 1995, he was awarded Man of the Year by the Cyprus Federation of America at the 25th National Convention in Edison, New York.

  He is very proud to have received the Ellis Island Award in 1998.

    Dr. Crist built the first Outpatient Surgical Center in Jacksonville, North Carolina; the first birthing center in Jacksonville, North Carolina and at the present time has just built a new Outpatient Obstetrical and Gynecological Service for the Women in North Carolina.
