Vincent A. Calarco Business Leader Italian 1993 Recipient Vincent A. Calarco joined Crompton & Knowles Corporation as President and Chief Executive Officer in April 1985 and a year later was elected to the additional post of Chairman. Under his leadership Crompton & Knowles dedicated itself to expansion of its core value-added specialty chemicals and equipment businesses, thereby achieving superior growth in shareholder value. Mr. Calarco, received a B.S. degree in chemical engineering at Polytechnic University of New York and an MBA degree with distinction from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. In 1970, Mr. Calarco joined NL Industries, Inc. where he held a series of management positions, becoming Business Manager, Plastics and Speciality Chemicals. In May 1978, Mr. Calarco joined Uniroyal Chemical Company as General Manager, Chemicals and Polymers, and in August 1979, Mr. Calarco was appointed President of Uniroyal Chemical Company and was elected Vice President of the parent, Uniroyal, Inc. He served as President of Uniroyal Chemical Company until August 1984, when he became Corporate Vice President for Strategy and Development at Uniroyal, Inc. Mr. Calarco was 1995-1996 Chairman of the Chemical Manufacturers Association and currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors, Chairman of the Board International Committee, Chairman of the Office of the Chemical Industry Trade Advisor (OCITA) and is member of the Finance Committee. He is a member of the Executive Committee and Vice Chairman of the American Section, Society of Chemical Industry, a Trustee of Polytechnic University of New York, a Trustee of the National Foundation for the History of Chemistry, and a member of the American Section of the Société de Chimie Industrielle. He also serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of The Hopkins School and is a member of the Board of Directors of ASARCO Incorporated.
