William Ungar William
Ungar, a Holocaust survivor, came to New York on the S/S Marine Flasher,
the first Displaced Persons ship, on May 20, 1946, after World War II.
He graduated from City College of the City of New York with a
degree in Mechanical Engineering. He became active in social, philanthropic and community
affairs. Mr. Ungar has been
honored by the United Jewish Appeal and the Israel Bond organization.
He is one of the founders of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in
Washington D.C., as well as the Museum of Jewish Heritage of the City of
New York. Mr. Ungar is a
member of the Executive Advisory Committee of Jewish Studies at Queens
College in New York. He is a
recipient of the America Business Achievement Award for 1994. In September 1995, Mr. Ungar and his company, National Envelope, were featured on WCBS-TV’s program “Building America-Eye on Business,” and in June of 1996, Mr. Ungar received the New York City Master Entrepreneur of the Year award recognizing entrepreneurs “whose vision, innovation and hard work have established and sustained successful growing businesses.” In October 1996 he was designated as a National Entrepreneur of the Year and he appeared on the Lou Dobbs’ program on CNN.
