Wayne Newton has long been good friend to NECO and many other charitable organizations around the world. He is a living example that, like the light of a candle, kindness only grows stronger the more it is shared.
NECO is proud to report that 1999 Medalist Wayne Newton was knighted into the American Delegation of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George on July 19th, 2011 in Los Angles. This beautiful and reverent ceremony took place in the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels and was attended by Mr. Newton's family and closest friends. The knighting ceremony was conducted by His Eminence Cardinal Theodore Edgar McCarrick of Washington, D.C., who received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 1990!
The Order is a very distinguished organization known to actively support philanthropic activities, the propagation of the Roman Catholic faith and charitable relief to the poor. Wayne's humanitarian contributions are legendary and the Order singled out his dedication to his country and his involvement in organizing USO tours to combat regions as reasons for this unique and well-deserved honor. Now, ‘Mr. Las Vegas' can officially be called ‘Sir Las Vegas' if he so chooses. Either way, NECO is proud to call him a friend.
