In the weeks before the Ellis Island Medals of Honor ceremony, NECO was proud to attend an event that honored our local 2012 Medalists from the Asian-American community. NECO Executive Director Rosemarie Taglione attended an elegant luncheon at the State Banquet Hall of the Grand Restaurant in Flushing Queens where she happily greeted our 2012 Medalists and welcomed them to the NECO family. The afternoon was organized by the Strategic Alliance of Asian-American Non-Profit Organizations (SAAANPO) which is headed by our good friend and 2010 Medalist, Jim Lin-Chi Chu, and was attended by over 40 guests and many reporters from both local and international Asian press.
The luncheon was a wonderful chance for the Medalists to meet and each took a moment to introduce themselves and share their personal and professional accomplishments. As the host, Mr. Chu invited Ms. Taglione to say a few words, which she did, welcoming the new Medalists and thanking all involved for organizing such a wonderful event. At the end of the lavish multi-course meal, the guests posed for photos and answered questions from reporters. Everyone was pleased with the great amount of press the event received in the international papers, including the World News, whose article is included below.
