NECO hosts their kick-off press event at the Lambs Club

On Tuesday, April 10th, NECO hosted its own kick-off event to announce the first round of 2012 Ellis Island Medal of Honor recipients. Over 50 guests arrived for a truly elegant luncheon at the Lambs Club at the Chatwal Hotel in the center of Times Square. Marvin Scott, the legendary newscaster and 2008 Medalist, hosted the event with his usual wit and charm, keeping the mood lively. Mr. Scott introduced NECO chairman Nasser J. Kazeminy who welcomed the Medalists and inspired them with his remarks by telling them that their “Inspired service to others has changed lives and touched hearts…. You not only do great things, but you inspire great things in others. And for that we thank you.”

NECO also took the opportunity to introduce our newest commissioned artwork by the respected portrait artist, Bernard Solco. “Liberty” is a 30” x 24” acrylic on canvas painting created especially for NECO and will be used in our marketing and promotional materials throughout the year, as well as be offered for sale in prints which will be made available on our website atwww.neco.org.

Many Medalists took time out of their busy schedules to attend the event, including philanthropist Eugene Lang, Broadway producer and composer Neil Berg, as well as TV personality Michael Bennett. But each Medalist was a star that afternoon and all were honored equally for their achievements and humanitarian efforts. Later in the program, Medalists HR Shah '05 and Sant Singh Chatwal '09 were both thanked by Marvin Scott from the podium for their help in the planning of our event. All the Medalists had an opportunity to be interviewed by SinoVision Television and AsiaTV, both of which covered our kick-off and plan on covering the May 12th ceremony.

The kick-off was a success, but it is only a warm-up to the festivities planned for May. You can be sure that NECO News will bring you the highlights of the 2012 ceremony in our next edition.
