NECO will augment its previous support by working throughout 2007 with Gift of Life USA, Gift of Life Italy and Ospedali Riuniti di Bergamo, to make possible 150 heart operations for children from Gaza in the Middle East. Dr. Giancarlo Crupi, Chief of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at Ospedali Riuniti, and surgical teams from around the world, will enable children to receive the highly specialized cardiac surgery in the Arab sector of Jerusalem, where it has never before been available. The doctors treating these indigent children, all of whom suffer from congenital heart disease, work on a completely voluntary basis. NECO is committed both to underwriting medical costs and to providing transportation from Gaza to Jerusalem.
In his work with Gift of Life, Dr. Crupi has taught innumerable cardiac surgeons the exacting techniques of pediatric open-heart surgery, so that they can bring these life-saving skills back to their own populations.

Through Gift of Life's Save-a-Child program, NECO has for many years brought children from foreign nations for life-saving surgery in the United States.
Since its inception in 1975, Gift of Life here and abroad has treated children with life-threatening cardiac disorders-infants through 18 years-from scores of countries, including Afghanistan, Bolivia, Cambodia, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Haiti, India, Iraq, Jordan Nigeria, Peru, Sri Lanka, Uganda, Ukraine, Zimbabwe and more. Ellis Island Medal of Honor recipient Aldo G. Frustaci, Esq., is Chairman of this remarkable organization.
NECO has been proud to help make open-heart operations possible, bringing children and their families to the United States from countries where such advanced surgery is not available. Just this past January, NECO and Gift of Life brought 3 year old Argille Daley from Jamaica for successful heart surgery. Five more children are due for surgery sponsored by NECO in the near future. |
